The plan last weekend was to go to the rugby club and drop some kit off before watching the Lions match for a bit then head off to help out at the vintage rally. Once I dropped the last of the kit off from the previous season I walked back into the club house only to find the Sky box wasn’t connecting to the internet. After a quick refresh of where the settings were it looks like it’d somehow lost all network connectivity during the week. Cue some cabling discovery! After a few minutes of cable tracing and finding out what devices are connected to the router behind the bar it was a case of finding a device that could do without a network cable for the morning and plug it into the sky box (all of which in a small gap between cupboard and ceiling) while stood on a bar stool to reach everything. Luckily I found something, the sky box connected to the internet straight away as soon as it was plugged into the router and we only missed the first few minutes of the game.
After a few thanks from everyone who arrived for the kick-off (and a free drink for my troubles) it got me thinking about having a toolkit on hand for last minute situations like that, maybe having something always available in the car to travel with me for quick fixes and then a more expansive set of tools for planned work is the way forward.
